She also loves exploring the history of her home state through historical fiction. Her books focus on strong women who share her passions, and have a talent for finding trouble!<\/p>\n<p>As Alicia Beckman, she also writes moody suspense.<\/p>\n<p>Leslie is a three-time Agatha Award winner: 2011 Best Nonfiction for her guide for writers,\u00a0<em>Books, Crooks &amp; Counselors: How to Write Accurately About Criminal Law &amp; Courtroom Procedure<\/em>; 2013 Best First Novel for\u00a0<em>Death al Dente<\/em>\u00a0(making her the first author to win Agatha Awards for both fiction and nonfiction); and 2018 Best Short Story (in a tie) for \u201cAll God\u2019s Sparrows,\u201d her first historical fiction. Her work has also won or been nominated for Spur, Derringer, Anthony, and Macavity awards. The collection\u00a0<em>All God\u2019s Sparrows and Other Stories: A Stagecoach Mary Fields Collection<\/em>, including the award-winning title story and other stories, is a finalist for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/highplainsbookawards.org\/finalists\/\">2025 High Plains International Book Awards,<\/a>\u00a0in the short story category.<\/p>\n<p>A Montana native, Leslie graduated from Seattle University and Notre Dame Law School. After practicing in Seattle for several years\u2014and shopping and eating her way through the Pike Place Market regularly\u2014she returned to Montana, where she practiced civil litigation and employment law, with an unhealthy dose of criminal law. Killing people\u2014on the page\u2014is more fun.<\/p>\n<p>Leslie served four years on the national board of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mysterywriters.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mystery Writers of America.<\/a>\u00a0She served as president of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sistersincrime.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sisters in Crime<\/a>\u00a0in 2015-16, and is a founding member of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sinc-guppies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guppies<\/a>, the SinC chapter for new and unpublished writers. She is also a member of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.authorsoftheflathead.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Authors of the Flathead,<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenwritingthewest.org\/\">Women Writing the West<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/westernwriters.org\/\">Western Writers of America<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Leslie loves to cook, eat, hike, travel, garden, and paint\u2014not necessarily in that order.
